Hertz Car Rental

Hertz Rent a Car is a general-use car rental company with locations in the United States as well as countries worldwide. Its headquarters is in Park Ridge, New Jersey and the company also maintains a heavy equipment rental division, known as Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation, or HERC. The company was started in 1918 by Walter L. Jacobs who began with a car rental operation in Chicago. From 1994 to 2005, Hertz was a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company and was then spun off in an initial public offering. Though the company had an affiliation with Ford, Hertz’s fleet does not consist completely of Ford vehicles.

The fleet that Hertz offers to its customers has some Ford car brands, like Mazda, Volvo, and Mercury, but also others like Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and General Motors vehicles. Hertz locations are mainly at airports around the world, but the company does also have the Hertz Local Edition, for customers who are looking for local services. HLE offers unlimited mileage, low-mileage vehicles, one way rentals, customer pickup and return services within 15 minutes of the location and pickup in the customer’s neighborhood with a drop off at the airport. Hertz also has the Hertz Fun Collection in the U.S., which is made up of specialty models like Corvettes, Mustangs, Jeep Wranglers and more. For business customers, there is the Hertz Prestige Collection, a line of high performance cars for business trips or leisure vacations. The Hertz Green Collection is a line of cars that are environmentally friendly. The collection is made up of hybrids and fuel-efficient cars.

Convenience options include products and services provided to enhance the customer experience. Customers can opt for a vehicle with Sirius|XM Radio, use the Hertz NeverLost GPS system, which is powered by Magellan, utilize PlatePass, an express service for tolls that enables customers to avoid lines and slow toll lanes, or get Nick on the Go, a portable video player for kids, that has 40 hours of programming from Nickelodeon preloaded on it. Services for the physically challenged are also available; customers can request hand controls, spinner knobs, and can rent an easy access bus, which has an electrically-operated ramp as well as accommodations for wheelchairs. Customers who are blind or physically challenged can also bring a driver who is over 25 years old and holds a valid driver’s license. Emergency roadside assistance is provided to drivers in the U.S., Canada, and some other countries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In certain U.S. cities, Hertz offers hourly rentals with no extra charge to refuel the car, no application fee, no cancellation fee, no fee for reservation changes and 180 miles per hourly rental.

The #1 Club is Hertz’s membership program. Members get faster reservations and rentals, discounted rates and special offers, and the ability to earn free rental days. For frequent renters, there is also the Hertz #1 Club Gold, Hertz #1 Club Gold Five Star, and Hertz #1 Club Gold President’s Circle. The Hertz #1 Club membership is free, while the Gold requires an annual membership fee and the Five Star and President’s Circle are earned through different levels of renting. The benefits include guaranteed upgrades, bonus and awards points, savings with limited blackout points and much more. On top of the #1 Club, Hertz also has the #1 Awards program. This free loyalty program gives members points for all qualifying dollars spent on rentals, a variety of free rental days and lengths, and the ability to exchange points for miles and credits in one of Hertz’s partner programs.

Connect by Hertz is a car sharing program for customers who don’t want to own cars, but need to utilize them from time to time. Membership in the program is pay-as-you-go and there are competitive hourly rates. Vehicles can be taken on an hourly basis or for full days up to a week at a time. This program is available in limited areas, with additional locations to come. Another program available to customers who need more than just a rental is Hertz Rent2Buy. This program gives customers the option to rent a car and then, if they are satisfied with it, they can opt to buy the used vehicle. The Hertz monthly rental system is aimed at customers who need an extended rental. The monthly lease includes no upfront fees or finance charges, no monthly lease commitments, no mileage caps, the ability to exchange cars each month, online booking, availability at Hertz Local Edition locations in the U.S., availability with or without LDW and a minimum two month rental requirement.

Hertz offers many different programs and services to customers who need rental cars for airport runs, local driving, long-term use and even for those who want to buy used vehicles. Its programs are designed to meet a variety of needs and make their products and services more affordable and more widely available.
